How to Transfer M4R Ringtones to iPhone in Old iTunes

Tones Not Showing in iTunes 12.7 >>

If you are still using the old iTunes which is earlier than 12.7, you can use its sync feature to add the m4r file to iPhone. But note that, it will delete the custom ringtones from your iPhone at the same time. If you don’t want any data lost, just use the Method 1 in this post.

Before you sync the ringtones, you need to add them to your iTunes library, or just use “File > Transfer File to Library” to make it. If you haven’t prepared your ringtone, refer to this guide to create your own m4r ringtone.

Step 1: Connect your iPhone to computer and open iTunes.

Step 2: When iTunes detect your iPhone, click on the device tab.

Step 3: Choose “Ringtones” from the left sidebar.

Step 4: Check “Sync Ringtones” and select the ringtones. Then hit Apply to sync the ringtones to iPhone.

iTunes is the official program for iOS data management and transfer. This program can be used to transfer purchased ringtones to iPhone, but this works only in earlier versions of iTunes. The version must be earlier than iTunes 12.7.

So, if you still have any iTunes version beyond iTunes 12.7, then you can fool these steps to transfer your purchased ringtones from one iPhone to another.
Step 1: Connect the iPhone where you have the ringtones you would like to transfer to your PC using a USB cable. Launch iTunes.
Step 2: Wait for your iPhone icon to appear on iTunes, then click File > Device > Transfer Purchases from [Device Name]. All your iTunes purchased files will be transferred to iTunes including purchased ringtones.

Step 3: Disconnect your iPhone from your PC, and connect the second iPhone where you want to transfer ringtones to.
Step 4: Click on the device icon on iTunes, and click on the “Tones” option on the left side of the menu.

Disadvantages:

  1. You may not be able to transfer your custom ringtones. iTunes only transfers purchased ringtones.
  2. Custom ringtones in the second iPhone may get lost when syncing files from iTunes. It’s the limits of iTunes sync.
  3. The option to selectively transfer ringtones is not available.
  4. If you’ve already updated your iTunes to version 12.7, then this method is not for you.

How to Transfer Music from One iTunes Account to Another

Step 1: First, it is recommended that you consolidate your iTunes library to ensure that all the content is in iTunes Media folder. To do this, navigate to Files > Library > Organize Library in iTunes on your computer and select the Consolidate Files option, then click OK to confirm your action. Depending on the size of content in your iTunes library, the consolidation process will take several minutes.



Step 2: iTunes Library.itl. and iTunes Library.xml are the two files you will need. They are located in ~/Music/iTunes/. Copy these as well as the iTunes Media folder from your computer to your friend's computer.



Step 3: Now launch iTunes on your friend's computer and create a new playlist. Select that playlist and drag and drop the iTunes Media folder that you copied in the previous step to the newly created playlist.

Step 4: Next, navigate to File > Library > Import Playlist and select the iTunes Library.xml file that you copied from your computer. Doing this will add all the contents you dragged into iTunes. Restore Lost or Accidentally Deleted iTunes Playlists


1. Restore iTunes Playlist from Previous Backup

This is helpful only when you have a backup of your iTunes folder before. Or you should try the first ways.

Step 1. Quite iTunes.

Step 2. Locate your external hard drive where you bakcup your iTunes folder before.

Step 3. Drag the iTunes folder from the external hard drive back to its default location.

Step 4. Open iTunes while pressing Shift key (Windows) or Options key (Mac).

Step 5. The window “Choose iTunes Library” will pop up, choose Choose Library.



Step 6. Choose the iTunes library that you dragged in Step 3. Click Choose or Open and select the iTunes Library.itl inside.

Launch iTunes on your computer. Go to Edit > Preferences > Advanced.


Check “Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library”. When you click on this option, iTunes will make a copy of the iTunes media folder.


Go to File > Library > Organize Library. Make sure Consolidate files is checked and hit OK.


Quite iTunes. Go to your iTunes folder (you can find the directory from Edit > Preferences > Advanced on iTunes). Drag the iTunes folder to external hard drive.


2. Restore iTunes Playlists from Old iTunes Music Library.xml

Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes first.

Step 1. Quit iTunes.

Step 2. Find the iTunes folder on your computer.


For Windows: Navigate to C:\Users\username\Music\iTunes


For Mac: At the top of your Mac screen, go to Go > Home from the menu bar. Then go to Music folder and then iTunes folder.

Step 3. In the iTunes folder, locate files with the name “iTunes Music Library.xml” and drag it to your desktop.

Step 5. Locate the “iTunes Music Library.xml” on your desktop and select it.

Step 6. Select OK. iTunes will automatically recreate your lost playlists.

This process should magically restore your iTunes library to an earlier state before it was accidentally removed. If you fail to find the iTunes Music Librart.xml, this way is not available for you.
